Our Services

Comprehensive Eye Exams

We offer complete eye and vision examinations including wide-field retinal imaging.  Routine eye exams assess visual functions, optical measurements, and ocular health.

Contact Lens Fitting

We can assess fit, comfort, and vision for contact lens wearers. Daily disposable, biweekly, or monthly contact lenses are available.

Urgent Eye Care

We can take care of minor eye injuries, and we assess and treat symptoms like flashes, floaters, redness, pain, double vision, or itchy eyes. These visits are covered by Alberta Health Care.

Surgical Co-Management

We offer pre and post operative assessments for refractive surgery, cataract surgery, and other ophthalmological procedures. Medical referrals to our ophthalmology colleagues for acute and chronic eye conditions are also available.

Dr. Paul Lathrop

Born and raised in Calgary, Paul graduated with distinction in optometry at Pacific University in Oregon and took a residency position at the University of California, Berkeley.

Dr. Lathrop enjoys cycling, hiking, and cross country skiing with his wife and two children. He has served on the Executive of the Calgary Society of Optometrists.

Dr. Magdalis Velázquez

Dr. Magdalis Velázquez

Dr. Magdalis Velázquez was born and raised in Aguada, Puerto Rico. She completed her optometry degree in 2000 with honours at the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico School of Optometry.

Velázquez speaks fluent Spanish and English.

In her spare time, Dr. Velázquez enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and friends.

Dr. Monica Bell

Dr. Monica Bell

Monica Bell, a native Calgarian, graduated with honours from the University of
Waterloo, School of Optometry. During her education, she completed an ocular
disease and therapeutics externship in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Bell is passionate about helping others and has participated in several volunteer
eye care missions in countries such as Romania, Thailand and Jamaica. She has also
been involved in vision screenings for athletes in the Special Olympics.
Monica enjoys staying active by teaching and participating in fitness classes,
travelling, drawing and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Michael Yu

Dr. Michael Yu

Dr. Michael Yu was born and raised in Calgary, where he completed a degree in Biological Sciences at
the University of Calgary. His professional studies brought him to the windy city of Chicago where he
graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) in 2010. Following graduation, Dr. Yu practiced
across Vancouver Island, and in 2012 returned to Calgary.
Within his professional studies, Dr. Yu had externship rotations in ocular disease and low vision at the
Veterans Affairs Medical Centre in Providence, Rhode Island, and vision therapy in Southport,
Connecticut. Additionally, he was fortunate to be involved with a volunteer mission trip to Mexico where
thousands of people were provided with optometric care.
In his free time, Dr. Yu likes to stay active and has many interests ranging from, but not limited to, food,
fitness, music, and cinema.
Dr. Yu is a member of the Alberta Association of Optometrists (AAO), and Calgary Society of
Optometrists (CSO).

Dr. Sarah Freiburger

Dr. Sarah Freiburger

Dr. Sarah Freiburger was born and raised in Calgary and started her education at the University of Calgary studying Biochemistry before completing her Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo. She completed her ocular disease internship in Florida where she worked in a multi-disciplinary setting with retinal specialists, cataract surgeons, oculo-plastics, and general Ophthalmology. She has participated in eye care missions in countries such as Morocco and Jamaica, and volunteers at the CUPS clinic in Calgary. Outside of work her favourite place to be is running or hiking in the mountains.

Dr. Allison Wright

Dr. Allison Wright

Allison Wright completed a Bachelor of Optometry degree at the University of Melbourne.

Allison loved Australia so much that she stayed to obtain a Post Graduate Diploma in Ocular Therapeutics at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane.

Dr Wright has experience working with a laser surgery clinic

With a keen interest in travelling, Dr. Wright volunteered for an eyecare mission to South Africa in 2005 and has since been to many other countries.

Dr. Sharon Winnicki

Dr. Sharon Winnicki

Dr. Sharon Winnicki was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. She studied at the Southern College of Optometry and graduated with honours in 2006.

In her spare time, Dr. Winnicki enjoys camping, biking and gardening with her husband and children.

Dr. Mira Chen

Dr. Mira Chen

Dr. Chen was born and raised in Edmonton. She earned both her Bachelor
of Science and her Doctor of Optometry degrees at the University of
Waterloo. During her training, she did a clinical externship in Mesa,
Arizona and accompanied a team to Kingston, Jamaica for an eye mission.
She is passionate about helping people and spent 6 years in West Africa
doing development work with her husband and 2 kids. She speaks Korean
and French fluently. Outside of work, she enjoys running and yoga.

Dr. Brady Turner

Dr. Brady Turner

Dr. Turner is a native of Grande Prairie, Alberta and in 2007 completed his Bachelor of Science in biology at the University of Alberta with a minor in Psychology. In 2011, he graduated with honors, and obtained his Optometric Doctorate from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois and was one of only two in his class to receive the VSP Scholarship for Clinical Excellence.

His clinical interests include dry eye and contact lenses, including specialty fits. In 2010, he was fortunate to be involved in a volunteer mission to Honduras where he helped provide specialty eye care services to thousands of people in need. In his spare time he enjoys golf, weight training and spending time with his wife Janessa and their dogs Maisie and Lacey.

Dr. Turner is a member of the Alberta Association of Optometrists (AAO) and the Calgary Society of Optometrists (CSO).
